The 18th Chinese Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing, Chinese CSCW2023 was held on August 18-20, 2023 in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. As one of the most important national academic organizations in the field of Collaborative and Social Computing, CCF TCCC has gradually developed and condensed 8 research directions represented by CSCW, Social Computing, Group Intelligence Collaboration, Group Intelligence Evolution, Human-like Intelligence Collaboration, Processes and Services, Collaborative Design and Collaborative Applications.

With “Human-Centered Collaborative Intelligence” as its theme, Chinese CSCW2023 focused on the development trend of artificial intelligence, human-computer collaboration, and intelligence empowerment. It also exchanged the latest achievements of theoretical models, core algorithms, crucial technologies, and platform applications related to human-centered collaborative intelligence. Finally, it shared the creative applications and practical experiences of human-centered collaborative intelligence in the domains of health intelligence, financial intelligence, industrial intelligence, and educational intelligence. Furthermore, 317 individuals signed up for the conference in all, 221 papers were submitted, and 29 short and 55 long papers were accepted. 2 top papers and 2 best student papers were chosen following anonymous screening and assessment.

Xie Tiantian, a graduate student in the class of 2023 at the School of Journalism and Communication of South China University of Technology, and her supervisor, Prof. Wu Xiaokun, submitted their paper for review. The paper “Collective Intelligence Analysis Based on Data of Network Communications in Self-Organized Douban Communities” was admitted as a long research paper. And it also won the “Best Student Paper Award” (1/2) at the conference. This not only represents yet another progress in interdisciplinary talent cultivation program, but also indicates validation and acknowledgment in pertinent fields for the research findings of the school’s “New Liberal Arts” talent training strategy.

Recently, the school has actively investigated new talent cultivation pathways while concentrating on developing distinctive directions including computing communication, integrated news, and computing advertising in response to the Ministry of Education’s directives for the development of “New Liberal Arts”. As of right now, an interdisciplinary research and teaching model grounded in journalism and communication theories and informed by computational science methods has come into being, bringing together the forces of all involved and yielding promising results in terms of new scientific research cooperation and innovative talent cultivation.
