Seminar of the Future of Transportation was held by SCET at the Room 604 of Transportation Building on the afternoon of Jan 8, 2015. SCET scholars including Su Cheng, the Dean of SCET, Wen Huiying, Deputy Dean, Prof. Xu Jianmin, Prof. Jin Wenzhou, and associate professor. You Feng, Arup Group, some experts of Arup Group including Mr Zhou Wen, Mr Hamlyn Kuong, Mr Corey Wong, and Mr Clement, as well as SCET postgraduates took part in the meeting. Delegates of Guangzhou Traffic Police,Guangzhou Transtar Technology Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Transport Investment Group Co., Ltd. and other agencies relevant to transport also attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Wen Huiying.

On the opening remarks made by Prof. Su Cheng, the Dean, on behalf of SCET, issued the appointment letter of visiting professor to Mr Zhou Wen, hoping that SCUT and Arup could continue the good relation of cooperation and exchange.

The academic report began after the appointment ceremony. At first, in the report of Study on Integrated Transport in Hong Kong, the Mr. Zhou Wensheng introduced development trends of transport in Hong Kong since the 1960s, and analyzed the the plan of transport in Hong Kong in the future. And then he answered the questions asked by students and exchanged thoughts with them. Prof. Wen Huiying, in her report of Traffic Development Status quo and Trends in Guangdong, introduced the transport development from all aspects in Guangdong Province, analyzed the link between economic development and transportation, described various transport phenomena from both macro and micro perspectives and made insightful points. Audiences got so much out of it. The seminar had three themes: information and control, public transportation, and interaction between people and vehicles, so SCUT and Arup made speeches and exchanges from these themes. In the theme of information and control, Prof. Xu Jianmin made a speech named Technology and Application of Coherent Flow of Traffic Coordination in Cities, and Mr Hamlyn Kuong made a speech titled Experience Sharing of Traffic Control System Project in Zones. In the theme of public transportation, Prof. Jin Wenzhou made a speech named Analysis of the Public Transport Operation Patterns in China, and Mr Corey Wong made a speech titled Public Transport Operation Patterns Worldwide. In the theme of interaction between people and vehicles, associate professor You Feng made a speech named Future Digital Life: Imagination of the Interaction between People and Vehicles, and Mr Clement Ho made a speech named Experience Sharing of the Simulation of the Interaction between People and Vehicles. Experts and Scholars showed their previous research findings, and made in-depth exchanges, raising the understanding of the future of transportation to a new level.

During the five-hour passionate seminar, SCET teachers and students and Arup scholars carried out deep exchanges, and the cooperation in the future was discussed.
