From September 2nd to 3rd, talented individuals from all over the world gathered at the School of Environment and Energy of South China University of Technology, carrying their expectations for dreams and the future. Although the storm “Sura” has not yet subsided, the welcoming work of our school has been carried out smoothly and orderly.

In the morning of the 2nd, the secretary of the school party committee, He Jianhua, the executive vice president of the school, Professor Zhu Nengwu, the vice president, Professor Hu Yun, the deputy secretary of the party committee, Wu Honghui, the assistant to the dean, Professor Qiu Guanglei, and all the new class teachers and counselors came to the international campus and the university town campus to visit the student dormitories and learn about the basic situation of the new students and the welcoming volunteer work. They also greeted and cared for the staff and student volunteers on the front line, and warmly communicated with the new students and their parents who came to report, and promptly learned about the needs of the students.

“Where are you from?” “Do you adapt to the climate?” 'Do you have any difficulties?'… In each new student dormitory, the school leaders cordially inquired about the students’ hometown, relevant living matters, and learned about their accommodation and living conditions, bringing the warmth of home to the new students of the 2023 class who had just entered school.

While caring and focusing on the students' study and life, the school leaders also expressed earnest hopes for the new students from all over the world, hoping that the new students will unite and be friendly, achieve all-round development in morality, intelligence, physicality, aesthetics, and labor, and become outstanding talents with knowledge and lofty ideals. The school leaders’ cordial condolences made everyone feel the warmth and care of the School of Environment and Energy, and the new students were full of expectations and confidence in university life.

In the afternoon of the 2nd, the school held a meeting for parents of undergraduate freshmen in the B4-215 lecture hall. Nearly 200 parents participated in the meeting online and offline. At the meeting, the executive vice president of the school, Professor Zhu Nengwu, introduced the overall situation of the School of Environment and Energy to the parents of the new students from the perspectives of development history, talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, and cooperation and exchange, so that the parents had a preliminary understanding of the School of Environment and Energy and the environmental profession.

Deputy Secretary Wu Honghui introduced the cooperation between the school and parents, reminding parents to pay attention to the students’ adaptation, assist the students in planning their university life, and guard against fraud.

In the summary speech, Secretary He Jianhua introduced the situation from the national, discipline, and school aspects, and hoped that parents would guide their students to advance and grow together with the motherland. Only by integrating their own ideals into the motherland can they achieve their goals. He also hoped that the teachers and parents of the school would work together to help the students embark on a new journey in life.

During the Q&A session, the school leaders answered questions from parents about “the proportion of recommended postgraduate opportunities,” “whether students who have not studied chemistry in high school can complete their studies well,” “the employment prospects for undergraduate graduates,” and so on.
