In order to strengthen patriotism education and play the role of Party members as pioneers, the School of Environment and Energy held a flag-raising ceremony at 7:00 on March 13, 2023 in front of the library square of the University City Campus. Mr. He Jianhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Environment and Energy, Professor Zhu Nengwu, Executive Vice President of the School, Mr. Wu Honghui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, all counselors and student Party members of the School attended this event. The flag-raising ceremony was presided over by Deputy Secretary Wu Honghui.

The flag-raising ceremony began with the national anthem singing and national flag raising. Accompanied by the solemn national anthem, the five-star red flag was raised and fluttered in the wind. All teachers and students saluted, expressing their infinite love and respect for the motherland, feeling proud for the country.

Professor Zhu Nengwu, Executive Vice President of the School of Environment and Energy, gave a speech under the national flag. In his speech, he reviewed China's scientific and technological achievements in the past 40 years and emphasized the key role of scientific and technological innovation in China's modernization. “A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive”. Professor Zhu took this opportunity to express his deep expectation for the students of the School to strive for higher, “I hope that the SCUTers in the new era can strive to be the master of the scientific research highland and climb to its peak!”

Wang Jilun, a member of the 2019 Environmental Engineering class in 3+2 China-Australia Program, spoke under the national flag as a representative of the Party. With the theme of Excelling in a New Journey, he reviewed the achievements of China in the past five years and introduced the effectiveness of China's ecological and environmental work. He said that young people should undertake the mission and forge ahead with vigor, showing the great spirits and unlimited possibilities of young Party members.

Finally, under the oath led by Mr. He Jianhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, all Party members raised their right fist and recited the oath of Party membership while facing the Party flag. By reciting the oath, the Party members expressed that they should always stay true to their original heart and mission in mind, effectively unify their thoughts and actions to learn and implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, fulfill their commitments to the Party with practical actions, and contribute to the high-quality development of the University and the School.

Hereto, the flag-raising ceremony was successfully completed.
