On the morning of April 23, 2022, the 18th China Graduate Mathematical Modeling Competition of Huawei Cup held the oral defense meeting of Mathematical Modeling Star” online. Under the joint guidance of Professor Zhu yun and Professor Liu Shenquan of the School of Mathematics, team members Liang Yunshun, Li Jie and Huang Yongxi, 2020 graduate students of the School of Environment and Energy, won the champion of Mathematical Modeling Star with excellent performance.

It is reported that the 18th Huawei Cup attracted 20525 teams from 34 provinces, cities, autonomous regions, special administrative regions, 535 foreign universities and some research institutes to participate the competition. A total of 17692 teams successfully completed the competition, of which 206 teams won the first prize, with an award-winning ratio of about 12.29%. The competition expert committee selected 12 teams from the first prize teams to be shortlisted for the Mathematical Modeling Star oral defense. The top three teams in the defense won the first, second and third place for the “Mathematical Modeling Star, and the other teams won the Nomination Award. The participating teams conducted oral defense online in real time, and the final result was jointly voted by the expert and the public (representatives of the first prize winning teams). After fierce competition, the teams of Liang Yunshun, Li Jie and Huang Yongxi from the School of Environment and Energy of South China University of Technology won the champion.

During the preparation, the three team members repeatedly conducted defense drills and continued to consolidate the foundation of thematic learning. The School attached great importance to this competition, not only providing a good environment for the team's defense, but also arranging special personnel to track the whole process. At the same time, the Youth League Committee of the University and the School of Mathematics also gave strong support to the team, provided professional guidance on matters related to the defense, which laid a solid foundation for the team to successfully win the champion of Mathematical Modeling Star”.
