On the morning of December 26, 2018, Deputy Director of Office of Development Strategy and Planing Zhu Yongdong, Director of Teaching Affairs Office Xiang Cong, and Deputy Director Zhao Hongru were invited to SEC. They came here for the guidance and research of discipline construction and undergraduate program construction. The conference was host by Deputy Dean Jiang Jinbo, and 12 heads and deputy heads of departments attended, as well as Zhao Min, the Secretary of SEC CPC Committee, and Xu Feng, the Deputy Dean.
First of all, Deputy Director Zhu Yongdong trained the participants about the discipline construction. The training focused on the definition of the discipline, discipline construction, discipline assessment, and how to construct disciplines. As for the coming qualified evaluation of the Program for Doctor Degree of Applied Economics, Deputy Director Zhu pointed out that judges and experts may recognize this qualified evaluation as the level assessment. The program construction would be only approved by judges and experts rather than the standard of discipline declaration. SEC still has a long way to go.
Director Xiang and Deputy Director Zhao introduced the specific programs of the school, and heads of departments reported the current stage of professional development and related issues. Director Xiang answered the questions and gave some meaningful suggestions. (1) Reform of academic programs are needed due to so many departments in the school, developing inter-disciplines appropriately. (2) The enrolment mode should be modified if the department doesn’t meet the enrolment plan, such as second recruitment. (3) It is recommended that all academic departments should gain professional certification as soon as possible to speed up professional internationalization. (4) Discipline construction needs to get some new breakthroughs, and study more about interdisciplinary subjects. (5) The school should pay more attention to the teaching achievement award, textbook, teaching and research, and teaching reform, since the discipline construction and program construction always complement each other. (6)Staff should participate in conferences of Education Steering Committee and learn more the national frontiers of teaching activities. (7) For students, don’t always focus on employment, the enrolment rate should also be increasing.
