The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering holding the opening ceremony and entrance education for 2021 undergraduate freshmen
On the 11th September, 2021, the opening ceremony and entrance education were successfully held for 2021 undergraduate freshmen of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in the A4 teaching building of the University City Campus. Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Guomin Xu, School Dean Prof. Zhengguo Zhang, and School Vice Dean Prof. Jianqiang Hu attended the ceremony. Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Caigang Liu, presided over the whole event.

The ceremony began with the solemn national anthem. And then Prof. Zhengguo Zhang delivered an opening ceremony address. He firstly introduced the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to students from four aspects, including school development and history, general situation, training modes in undergraduate studies as well as graduation and employment direction. Combining with the national strategic development goal of “peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060”, the key position of chemistry and chemical engineering industries was then addressed basing on national development plan in the aspects of environment, energy, technology and so on. Finally, Prof. Zhang encourages all students to focus on the future and have great ambition and long perspective.

School Secretary of the Party Committee, Guomin Xu, sent earnest words to all students as their first ideological and political lesson in university. He suggested students looking up at the starry sky, but also down-to-earth. It meant that in addition to practical skills, students must also be with unswerving ideals and beliefs in current variable situations of the world. The major task of students is to serve the broad masses of the people and national development. He also gave students an advice that students should have native land emotion and strive to build a beautiful, prosperous and strong China!

The representative of the 2021 undergraduate students, Lin Lijiao, called on new students to work hard together and write the youthful background of Chinese workers in terms of self-discipline learning, moral cultivation, and cultivating a firm patriotic spirit.
During the part of entrance education, School Vice Dean Prof. Jianqiang Hu answered students deeply from different aspects for the question that How students can have no regrets in college life? He gave advices that students should immediately adjust their study methods and learning status to adapt to the rich and intense study life in the university and also encouraged students to dare to endure hardships and struggle, and not to waste time.

Finally, department chairs including Prof. Yuanfu Deng from the Department of Applied Chemistry, Prof. Hao Yu from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Yong Ye from the Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering, and Prof. Guoqiang Guan from the Department of Energy Chemical Engineering gave detailed introductions of different majors to students from aspects of course design, student training plan, faculties and facilities as well as scientific research.
